The Cult of Shadowman is made up of a gang of commandos that Elya Ann Smith, a ptero jockey from the 41st Century, and her husband Anthor, a career computo-investigator, eduprogred to help protect the city of Old New Orleans using Jack Boniface, the dark-vested hero known as Shadowman, as a symbol to inspire them.
In time, the commandos went bad and became the Cult of Shadowman, an organization built around the belief that Jack Boniface would return from the death.
