Edward T. Sedgewick is a member of the Eggbreakers, a group of young Harbingers who act as the enforcers of Toyo Harada, the most powerful Harbinger on Earth and founder of the Harbinger Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps people with special abilities and talents by providing them with an environment where they can achieve their full potential.
After Edward accidentally kills Eugen Mulholand, an extremely hostile anti-social recluse, he quits the Eggbreakers and, though Pete Stanchek, a psionic of extraordinary power, invites him to join the Harbinger Resistance, a loose organization of renegades, he instead chooses to join Geoff McHenry and his girlfriend, Amanda McKee, as the original Secret Weapons.
After Edward inadvertently destroys a part of Brooklyn, Gilad Anni-Padda, the Eternal Warrior, informs the Harbinger Foundation]of his location, but rather than provide him with additional training, they lobotomize him and he loses all memories of his previous life.
