When surgeons working for Omen Enterprises save the recipients chosen to become part of the company's HARD Corps program, they use advanced neural implants to bring them out of their comas.
These neural implants also function as deadly weapons that enable the user to mimic Harbinger powers, one at a time, through signals broadcast from a base station. To develop these artificial Harbinger powers, the Corps scans the genetic matrix of natural Harbingers, whose powers become part of the Harbinger Powers Database equipment. Therefore, the powers that HARD Corps field agents can access grow as the Corps is able to examine actual Harbingers, but some of the basic powers in common use include invulnerability, shield, flight, and strength.
To insure that field agents – known as “psi–borgs” – do not go rogue or fall into enemy hands, each is also implanted with a cerebral failsafe, euphemistically known as a “brain–pop”, which will be activated automatically, causing brain functions to cease. Control liaisons can also engage the brain–pop manually.
