James Simpson is the police officer partner of Clay McHenry.
Resuscitation
Clay McHenry was a crooked cop and, during a raid, he and James ran away. When the police officers gave chase, James recognized them and tried to surrender, but they shot him in the neck and paralyzed him.
Although James would have never lost his mobility were it not for Clay, he accepted his condition as "fate," and continued to see the good in Clay, even when he saw none himself.
