Karl Breznoff
From Valiant Entertainment - The Book Of The Geomancer
In 1970, Karl Breznoff takes part of a project initiated by the USSR that implants bionic ordnance into his body that gives him a wide range of calibers and attack modes. Under the code-name Sniper, Karl is designed for covert terrorism and assassinations, but after the USSR opens under Perestroika, he becomes a mercenary who sells his services to the highest bidder.
The Most Powerful Man In The World
Early one morning in Tokyo, in the offices of the Harbinger Foundation, a non-profit organization that provided an environment where people with special abilities and talents could achieve their potential, Karl Breznoff met with Toyo Harada, the world’s most powerful Harbinger, who offered him one million dollars to stop a cabal whose membership he refused to reveal. After Karl showed off his weapon's destructive power, Toyo told him that he would change from the agent of a discredited regime to an idol of the world and he was the man who would save the planet. When Karl asked him what was in it for him Toyo told him that all he wanted was satisfaction and that he could keep all the bows long as the world knew that no outside force ruled their lives.
Later that day in New York City, Karl spotted Aric Dacia, a 5th Century Visigoth lost in the modern age garbed in a Manowar Class Armor, the most powerful weapon in the universe, flying over the Chrysler Building and shot him in the back. As he opened fire on Aric and pushed him through a brick wall, Karl told him that, while his armor appeared formidable, he had butchered worse.
When Aric tried to insult him after he punched him, his unfamiliarity with English made Karl certain he was the target Toyo sent him to find. As Aric’s lasers bounced off his laser-proof suit, Karl proclaimed himself the hero of their battle and fired on him, but his bullets ricocheted wildly and hit the innocent bystanders. When Aric pointed at Central Park, Karl thought he was escaping and shot him off the sky with a barrage of bullets.
As Aric hit the pavement, Karl shot him with a bazooka that broke the Manowar armor’s helmet. As Aric lashed out at him and blocked his barrels with his gauntlets, Karl worried that if he fired and his armor did not give at close range he could die, but since he believed that if he did not try the world would die, he opened fire and the blast destroyed his implants. While Karl withered in pain, Aric flew away with Ken Clarkson, a devious effeminate schemer and his confidant.
