An obnoxious individual, Earl "Midnight" Simkus first meets the HARD Corps when they break into the Harbinger Foundation complex known as Starstep where he works on finding a way to kill them at the behest of Toyo Harada.
After Earl foils the Corps’ attack using a hand–held device he designed to scramble the signals sent to their implants, he captures the team.
Eventually, Earls becomes the Corps' ally in their battle against Sigmund Heydrich and essentially replaces Softcore as their power broker.
